Gloucestershire Weddings

The beautiful county of Gloucestershire is blessed with a huge range of amazing wedding venues. Whether you’re looking for something like the quintessential parish church of Stanway or perhaps Lapstone Barn or Cripps Barn, both honey-toned heritage buildings, are more your style? A pretty boutique hotel, maybe The Swan at Bibury or The Hare and Hounds at Tetbury could be just what you’re looking for or perhaps you fancy your very own castle for the day, would Sudeley Castle fit the bill? Gloucestershire has something to suit everyone and it’s just an hour from Birmingham, two hours from central London, and two and a half from Manchester, making it a feasible choice for many weddings, so add it to your list of places to check out!

Why choose a wedding venue in Gloucestershire?

There is so much to say about this delightful county, but at the top of the list it has to be the Cotswold Hills. Mile upon mile of uninterrupted views across rolling countryside, lined with drystone walls and dotted with grazing sheep and stands of ancient woodland. Surely a world class backdrop for a natural, relaxed rural wedding day. If the open space of the Cotswolds isn’t your thing there are dozens of pretty market towns and villages to choose from, many of which have stunning heritage architecture, cobbled streets, parks and gardens alongside beautiful churches, superb hotels and a host of other premium venues, the choice is yours!

What sort of venue are you looking for?

It makes sense to set a budget as there is little to be gained from viewing a castle when the budget won’t stretch to that. Also, it’s worth bearing in mind that a beautiful bijou hotel still needs to be big enough for all of your guests to actually watch you getting married, after all, that’s what they came for!

Now consider the seasons. A winter wedding on a Cotswold hilltop could be a wet and windy affair and a sunny summer wedding in a tourist hot spot can lead to random visitors drifting in and out of your venue and your photographs.

No matter what time of year you’re planning a wedding for, the weather is anyone’s guess and while we keep fingers crossed for a nice day sometimes we need ‘Plan B’, something that needs careful consideration in advance.

You’re not alone. The wedding coordinator is there to help.
Here are a few questions that you could ask them.

  1. If it rains, where will the bride and groom photographs be taken?
  2. If not outside, where can the whole group and other group photographs be taken?
  3. If the wedding ceremony can’t be outside, is there a room big enough for everyone to see?
  4. Is the walk from the bridal preparation suite to the ceremony room under cover?

You can probably think of many more questions, but Plan B is likely to include a few compromises as some venues simply don’t have the indoor space that their gardens and grounds offer.
